# Registering an NPO

Registration is fairly straightforward, and will be the first item that we will attempt to complete, as the other steps require it!

To register the De Oude Weg neighbourhood watch as an NPO we will need the following documents:

* A founding document/constitution
* A deed of trust (a written agreement used by trusts)
* The memorandum and articles of association (which set out the mission of our NPO and monitors its growth)

The easiest way to get the founding documents written is to look at other existing examples.

The Oranjezicht constitution is a good sample to use. I have uploaded it here - [http://deoudeweg.co.za/pdf/Neighbourhood Watch Sample Constitution.pdf](http://deoudeweg.co.za/pdf/Neighbourhood%20Watch%20Sample%20Constitution.pdf). \
It looks like a simple search and replace should suffice.

Another option is the Kommetjie NHW constitution. This one is a little more formal - <http://deoudeweg.co.za/pdf/CONSTITUTION_KNW_2_Feb_20_2008.pdf>

Once we decide on a constitution, and memorandum, we can appoint people to serve in the organization, and then proceed to registering as an NPO.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://www.deoudeweg.co.za/chapter1/registering_an_ngo.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
