Wireless comes in 2 sets of publically usable frequencies.

  • 2.4Ghz

  • 5 Ghz

Most basic consumer wireless equipment is currently using the 2.4Ghz spectrum.

In order to avoid potential interference with consumer hardware, we will be using the 5ghz range for our wireless hardware.

We intend on using Ubiquiti Nanostation M5's for point to point wireless, and Ubiquiti Rocket M5's for high site/ repeaters.

The Ubiquiti devices are suitable for our requirements, have type approval certification from ICASA, and hence can legally be installed.

Wireless links will be created at locations identified, to allow for remote camera access. Each location will optimally point to either a repeater location, or a central high point to connect all locations to one network.

The monitoring computer will need a connection to one of the high points or repeater locations. This will physically need to be within 100M of a mounted wireless point, repeater or high site. If necessary we can use a dedicated Nanostation M5 to pointed at the closest high site or repeater to connect.
